The Legend of The Sphinx

One legend of the Sphinx recounts an ancient Greek myth about Oedipus, who meets the Sphinx a crossroad on his journey between Thebes and Delphi. Oedipus must answer the Sphinx’s riddle correctly in order to pass. Failure means his own death and that of the besieged Thebans. The riddle that the Sphinx asked Oedipus was: “What walks on four feet in the morning, two feet in the afternoon and three feet at night?”. Oedipus answered: “Man: as an infant, he crawls on all fours; as an adult, he walks on two legs and; in old age, he uses a walking stick”. Oedipus was the first to answer the Sphinx’s riddle correctly. Having heard Oedipus’ answer, the Sphinx was astounded and inexplicably killed herself by throwing herself into the Red Sea. Oedipus thereby won the freedom of the Thebans, the kingdom of that city and a wife Jocasta, who it was later revealed was his mother.

Oedipus met the Sphinx (means to squeeze or constrict – sphincter) at the crossroads, the threshold of his consciousness represented by Thebes (the bes, to be or not to be / normal humans) and Delphi (delta brainwaves or known as the subconsciousness). The Sphinx didn’t kill herself, she returned to the Red Sea, because this is where she resides. The Lilith article covers this as well. She kills newborns as well, those who are at the crossroads. Many of you have heard of crossroads demons. This article about the threshold also known as The House of the Rising Sun and also the Hall of Two Truths, reveals more information about the 13th house crossroads. If it had an address, it would be 13th street and 31st avenue. Sigmund Freud coined the phrase Oedipus Complex, and uses this to describe man’s internal yet ever present infatuation with his Mother.

Another legend is of King Thutmose IV who had a dream as a boy as he slept under the great head of the Sphinx. He had this dream inscribed into what is known as the Dream Stele that now sits between the paws against its chest. This being came to him in a dream as he slept beneath the shadow of the great head one afternoon at high noon. The great Sphinx cam to his side and told him that if he had the sand removed from the Sphinx’s body, that the Sphinx would make of him a king. So, Thutmose IV did as he was asked. Shortly thereafter, his older brother died unexpectedly, and Thutmose IV indeed became the king of Egypt just as the Sphinx promised.

Thoth, known for the Emerald Tablets Manuscript is said to have housed his personal craft beneath the Sphinx, and then erected the structure himself. Thoth claims in this manuscript to have been born of Atlantis and achieved enlightenment, there by transcending human awareness and earning a pass to travel back and forth from this dimension to the next. This pass was bestowed upon him by someone he called the Dweller, who he visited many times as a youth in Atlantis, secreted within a cavern within a mountain. The Dweller decided to apprentice Thoth, and did give him the early warning to take all of his important things and load them into his craft, and then go begin the civilization of Egypt. It is very compelling that the Sphinx that spoke to Thutmose IV, translated as “Born of the god Thoth”, called him his Son. Through a variety of legends, the mindfull student can begin to piece together an understanding.

According to legend and the renowned psychic Edgar Cayce, the Hall of Records are composed of three chambers spread throughout the world that contain the complete and accurate history of the lost continent of Atlantis along with the missing history of the current human race. These chambers are said to be located in Egypt underneath the right paw of the Sphinx, somewhere on the Yucatan Peninsula and one on the lost continent of Atlantis, which would be most likely be submerged. Each chamber is said to contain the history of the of the Atlanteans along with information on any of the surviving inhabitants of the lost continent. It was Cayce’s claim that there were small groups of survivors that managed to escape the destruction of Atlantis and it was these Atlanteans that brought civilization to both Egypt and Mexico.

In the ancient middle eastern cultures and Islamic tradition, the Cherubim is not a little baby angel commonly portrayed as Cupid. It is a great and powerful blessed being of the second highest order of angels. This being sometimes referred to as Shedu or Lammasu, and related to the Gryphon, and Phoenix is said that it is their duty to represent the gods and guard heavenly sanctuaries from intruders. These great beings are also described as being the chariot of the LORD in Ezekiel’s visions, the Books of Samuel, the parallel passages in the later Book of Chronicles, and passages in the early Psalms: “and he rode upon a cherub and did fly: and he was seen upon the wings of the wind.” It was these beings that were also upon the mercy seat of the Ark of the Covenant, facing each other. God it was said, was to have manifested between them.

Does this being actually exist? Yes. Is this being good or evil? She will reflect YOU. Are you good or evil? Which force does it represent? It represents protection, and a gateway, similar to the Christian depiction of St. Peter guarding the gates of heaven. Only those who are spiritually fit, may pass Its judgment. One might assume this one mighty being combined both Goddesses Ma’at, Goddess of truth and justice who weighs man’s hearts after death, and Ammit, devourer of the unworthy who fail to possess the enlightenment required for final transcendence into the heavens. Keep in mind, Isis is also known as the Goddess of 10,000 names, or as the Egyptians understood, aspects of the One Great Mother. In my research I have discovered what I believe to be the true riddle of the Sphinx. I created a page about this, and added my own commentary to give one a hint. The ancient manuscript I refer to is known as Thunder, Perfect Intellect (Perfect Mind). This manuscript is similar to the Gospel of Thomas, in that they are both riddles, if solved, one will not taste death.

The common theme here is this: if you can solve Her riddle, She will make of you a King. If you get close enough to discover Her, yet remain far enough to not know Her, She will destroy you. Seek and you will surely find, because what thou seeketh, is also stalking you like a cat in the jungle. Pray you have the heart of a lion when you meet lest you become meat when the Lioness hath found Her prey .

The mountain Thoth entered is not a physical mountain, but a common metaphor for the consciousness, the mountain being the journey through the mind, climbing ever so higher into enlightenment. The myth of Sisyphus also references this very same mountain metaphor. The Dweller Thoth referenced is the Sphinx, the Great Mother / Father being that guards the gates of enlightenment form those who only thirst for power and knowledge, yet have no interest in the Great Work of our Creators. Edgar Cayce calls the super-conscious realms beyond this gate the Hall of Records. In the book of Revelation, this is called The Book of Life. In his statements, this lies under the right paw of the Sphinx.. because if you choose the wrong paw, it will be the end of you. The three chambers around the world are a metaphor as well, since the world is a macrocosm to this body. These are the three paths (chambers) to enlightenment, adhere to the 10 commandments, practice the 7 virtues, and overcome the 7 vices. One might also argue, the Crown chakra, Third eye Chakra, and Heart chakra.. but really, you need them all. I also see this as three of the four ways I have discovered that lead to the next level of awareness, where She awaits the New (consciousness) Borne’s, Fasting, Meditation, and Medicines.

She wants to know why you have come to seek Her knowledge. She will read your heart, and judge you on the spot. As for the misconception, that one must first be dead in order to be judged, you are already dead, and you are being judged at every turn of your intentions. Approach this sphere of beings with frivolous intentions, or ugliness in you, and you will swiftly experience the second death, which is a return to pure energy, She will devour you to preserve Her Kingdom, as She has always done.
